In December 2017, artist and filmmaker Steve McQueen made an artwork in response to the fire that took place on 14 June at Grenfell Tower, North Kensington, West London. 72 people died in the tragedy. Filming the tower before it was covered with hoarding, McQueen sought to make a record:

What started as a biennial event at the ICA dedicated to popular Arab cinema, has grown to become the UK’s largest Arab Film Festival, bringing over 170 rarely-screened films to 10 cities in our tenure so far. We’ve grown a lot since 2012, but what remains unchanged is the core of SAFAR: a commitment to platforming, celebrating, and preserving the legacy of independent Arab Cinema.
